party inspiration

rebecca thuss

i've been on a search for party inspiration. i'm hosting/helping with 3 baby showers soon, my oldest daughter's birthday party is in may, i have centerpieces to think of and make for a dinner at church and for a luncheon at school, all this along with getting prepped for some boutiques this spring! yes, i'm busy, and short on inspiration. after lots searches and some help from readers, i've found a few new-to-me sites to be super helpful, so i thought i'd pass them on to you!

rebecca thuss
- lots of wedding stuff, but also much more.
hostess with the mostess - fun, modern, and stylish.
inchmark - you already know my love for this one!
party perfect - another former martha employee
imprintables - children's parties, although she hasn't posted anything new in awhile.

have fun searching!

its a bird. its a plane.

no, its my super girls! so super duper fast that i can hardly take a clear picture of them. kind of like a ufo sighting - never a clear photo. i wonder if this really happened...

custom made super hero capes here.

ps - sorry you're getting a million old posts in your feeds. i'm trying to move posts from the pleated poppy over here to have just one place to search through archives. hopefully i'll be done soon.

under construction

hey all! as you may have noticed, my blog has been under a bit of construction. i am in the process of combining my 2 blogs, business and personal, so i'm slowly taking the archives from the pleated poppy blog and putting them on here. and hello and welcome to my friends from the pleated poppy!

many changes are to come. i will be letting you all know about the latest with the pleated poppy, fun bits of inspiration, and sales (!), but even better... my blog is getting a make over! i keep playing with it myself, but soon i will have a real fancy blog. so please hang in there with me as we go through this transition - i can't wait!

accomplishments

my husband has been gone for a few days and i usually get so much done while he's gone. i don't know why. maybe its because i can't seem to go to bed at a reasonable hour when he's not here. like if i stay up really late he might actually come home days early? no sense in that. but getting lots done while he's gone is fun to surprise him with.

like this: i cleaned up our closet/laundry room. a few days ago you couldn't see the top of the washer and dryer. the stack of sheets needs to be refolded, i see now.

and when my husband left, i seriously don't know how he packed. the carpet was buried under a couple feet of laundry - it was all clean, but still ridiculous. you'd think it would be so easy to put away laundry when your laundry room is in your closet. but its actually easier to just throw your clean clothes on the floor behind you.

i actually cleaned my closet. like cleared out the old, wiped down the shelves, ironed and ironed and ironed, and did loads of laundry. it'll be a mess by tomorrow, guaranteed. but for now, its my favorite room of the house.

and my late nights were spent mostly on these little piles. what you see are the beginnings of crayon rolls, zippered pouches, notebook covers, tea towels and reversible headbands. so many hours to produce such tiny things. so many hours left to finish them.

only 1 hour 'til the hubs is home. yay!

reversible headbands

i just finished up another big batch of these headbands. i'm definitely going to snag a couple for myself, but i just can't decide which!

i am loving this brown houndstooth! i think i still have a checkbook cover to match it - that would be fun...

here's the lineup of today's progress. and i'm one step closer on all those zippered pouches i told you about - maybe tomorrow? but now i have more custom orders i need to bust out, too! focus, lindsey!

and don't forget about the discount i told you about yesterday on 30 days - 15% off!

school office: before & after

for those of you that don't know, we're a part of a school that is part-time home school, part-time at school. our oldest is in kindergarten and attends school 2 days a week. along with tuition, each family has a requirement to fulfill hours for volunteering each trimester. not only does this help to keep costs down, but also helps parents to invest emotionally and physically into their child's education.

the director of the school is a good friend of mine. she knew i needed more volunteer hours and had a fun job for me. the office was ok, but not super organized and welcoming. we met and decided on a slightly new layout and lots of fun details. late one night, my mom and a couple friends and i got together to put in a few hours to beautify the office.

there is still much, much more to be done, but its a fun improvement. and my hours are fulfilled for the trimester! yay!

sneak peek revealed

here's the full view of the sneak peek i did awhile back. a grandmother ordered these as a gift for her granddaughter who loves to bake. isn't that so sweet?

i'm currently working on a pile of new tea towels. my husband will be out of town for a few days and i tend to get a lot done while he's gone to try to make the time pass more quickly. maybe they'll be up in the shop by tuesday?

loft update

for those of you that don't know, we have been building a new garage and a guesthouse in our back yard since summer. and by "we", i mean my parents. the guesthouse has yet to be officially named. i'm not thinking, like, rosie or anything. i just mean we call it the loft or the guest house. do you have a better name for it? i tend to call it the loft mostly, or nana and gramps' house, as my kids refer to it. but when they aren't here, it will be our guest house. hmmmm....

here's where it all began. well, this is a little into the teardown. it was a tiny little one car garage and the yard space on the side of it i called "the dump" - it was where all of our leftover construction material was dumped after building the main house. it was disgusting.

here my mom and i are cutting out mounds and mounds of overgrown morning glory that has infested everything in the back. then we had to clear out the dump and move thousands of pounds of cinder block, brick and flagstone.

here's dad working away at the teardown. it went down in a day, i think. crazy fast.

here the dirt was being leveled. that didn't stop us from enjoying our summer - see the fancy blow-up pool? delux.

getting ready to pour the stem walls.

stem walls done.

prep for foundation. this was taken from the girls' bedroom window. that was the best spot to watch all the work.

here the pad/foundation/garage floor and driveway have been poured - the day before silas' 1st birthday party! down to the wire, i tell ya! this is the view back to the girls' room. on the other side of the pile of wood is the driveway down a hill to the street.

finally, framing began. here's my dad, in masculine pink, helping to lift the huge beams. the blond hair belongs to one of the "supervisors".

the first wall goes up for the loft! it went really fast from here.

see? wasn't that fast? the entrance to the loft (or guest house) is from the top tier of our yard. you walk up those cement steps you see in the bottom right corner, then there will be stepping stones acros the grass to the wooden steps to the entry at the front.

here are 3 little monkeys hanging out above where the fireplace now is.

here is the beautiful shower with pretty glass tile accents.

just needs fixtures. and running water. and a glass door and glass wall above the half wall.

and a garage door! this was very exciting for me for some reason. we'll get hardware for it to make it look a little more like a real carriage door. like handles and brackets.

and here's where we're at now. actually,a guy is working on finishing the railing up the stairs as we speak. i can hear his drill. i love how the railing turned out, not only aesthetically, but practically - it freaked me out to let my kids play outside for fear that they (silas) would escape my view and head up the stairs to a porch with no railing (he did). so this calms my fears.

what's left to be done:
bathroom sink and potty
shower fixtures
finish details on railing
exterior paint
interior trim
bling out the gagrage via these guys

i'll show you pics of the inside once there's not a tile saw and random tools filling up the space!

a little more love

are you tired of my valentine's posts yet? i know i'm a little late, but here's a "taster" of our valentine's weekend. my in-laws were in town and brought along our delightful niece. we made about 10 dozen cookies (that's what all the butter was for), pink pancakes (heart-shaped), pink egg-salad sandwiches (heart-shaped), pink milk, pink salmon, and pink mashed potatoes (heart-shaped). the kids loved having family around and all things pink (and heart shaped!). we had a great weekend!
