back to school blues

i write this the day before school officially starts.
and i'm a bit sad.
tomorrow is a BIG day for our family.
BIG changes.
little ones turning into BIG kids.
ugh.

let me 'splain our school situation to some of you that i have seriously confused.
yes, we are home schoolers.
but yes, we also send our kids to school.
here's a link to our school (the website is being updated, but you should still get a good feel for it).
we are part of a classical school that is part time home school, part time at school.
so on mondays and wednesdays, gracie (and now lily, too) will be going to a regular classroom setting with other students and get a good portion of their learning done there.
then on tuesdays, thursdays, and fridays they are home with me.
i feel like its the best of both worlds:
i get to keep them home and spend more time with them, but i am given direction on most of their curriculum.
one thing that scares the bujeezers out of me is the thought of choosing all our curriculum and planning it all!
but the kids also get classroom time, but with just 14 kids per class,
so the teachers really get to know the kids well.
so that's the school in a nut shell.
get it?

so my lily, my little not-even-5-yet lily, will be going into kindergarten tomorrow.
*tear*

and to make matters worse (or on some days... better) silas will be going to preschool on mondays and wednesdays, too!

such a happysad day!
on one hand, my nest will be empty for 2 partial days a week.
on the other hand, MY NEST WILL BE EMPTY FOR 2 PARTIAL DAYS A WEEK!!!!!
so you can see where i'm torn, right?

to have 2 days where i can work in daylight hours rather than the wee dark hours of the night sounds wonderful.
but to not hear little voices, or get kisses for no reason at all, or get snuggles.... well that just stinks!

*****

so if you are in a funk like me, how about some retail therapy?!

i don't know if my shop has ever held a prettier palate, so i am officially here to tempt you.
ready?

how about a bloom bag,
filled with...

and...

or instead maybe...

and...

a pretty pink petal pusher (like alliterations?),
and...

a coordinating checkbook cover?

so there are just a couple options for you.
head on over to my shop and see all the fun you can find by mixing and matching
to make the perfect set for YOU!

 feel better yet?

  1. I had a really long comment written until my computer wiped it...in a nutshell I think your schooling choice sounds great.
Maybe once you get used to the quiet you will love it, especially the no interuptions to crafting part!

  2. I could use some retail therapy! Although, since I spent $639 during the last 3 weeks on school supplies and school fees (that doesn't include school clothes!), I think that retail therapy might lead to marriage therapy. As of this school year, my three children are all in school full time. I know I should be enjoying the freedom, but I feel a little bit lost. And baby hungry. Isn't that pitiful?

  4. I definitely could go for some retail therapy and that bag is so amazing! But unfortunately, all my money went to bills and savings this week. :( boo. I really hope that the kids have a wonderful first day of school and I hope that its not too horrible for you.

  8. we are doing homeschooling via classical education too!
my oldest is only 3 1/2 so we aren't too far into it yet, but we are looking into Classical Conversations for next year, which sound similar.
sad to have a quiet house, and yet oh the things you can get DONE! (or take a nap!)

  9. I have never heard of another school that was remotely similar to ours! My son goes to school on Tuesday/Thursday/Friday and has "home-based learning" days with me on Mondays and Wednesdays. We love the "best of both worlds" feel of it too, and our school has become like such a family for us! Very cool! Here's a link to ours :)

  10. I love the option that you have. I have never heard of a school like that. I wish that I could find one here. That really is the best of both worlds.
    Love the retail.

    So SO pretty.

  11. Hi Lindsey! I too was wondering what to do with my soon to be five free hours a week while my youngest son went to preschool. Not to worry, the preschool called and offered me a part time job five mornings a week, so bye bye five 'free' hours, hello to new and exciting adventures (I hope).
P.S. You left a comment on my blog last week about a garland and I so felt like a rock star! Thanks for making my day, oh heck, my week :-)

  12. I would love that combo....my husband might kill me though...and I love the flowers. I think I need one for my hair. And I feel the sadness....enjoy the three days with them...and then enjoy the three days without them! It IS the best of both worlds for sure!

  13. Wow, your bloom bags go fast. This is the second time I have gone to buy a bag from you and they were sold out already! lol Very cute...

I love the idea of the homeschool/school school stuff. We are homeschooling our son (5) full time but I know he (and I) would appreciate the chance for some "real school" time. Wish they offered that here.

  14. Hi Lindsey...coming from one homeschool mom to another: enjoy your time alone. I think us mamas are too hard on ourselves sometimes. I feel guilty pretty much every time I get a babysitter! You'll be refreshed when they get home. Enjoy this new transition.

  15. that IS the best of both worlds. wish we had something like that. i'd love a couple of days to myself.

    that bag is great!

  16. I think it is hard for us as a mommy to let go. It was hard for me, but having a little time to yourself helps you to become a better mommy. Enjoy!! You can get more done and spend quality time with them when they are home. I love all your items in your shop!! You are one talented lady!!

  17. Man I would love to have ANY of that!

  18. Love the idea of Homeschool/real school! I'm a public school teacher and if I ever have any kids of my own I want to homeschool. I just love this, and wish they would have had this when I was growing up and my mom was doing homeschool with us. Enjoy your alone time, and as always I just love all of your stuff.

  19. Their school sounds wonderful, the best of both! I'm a fourth grade teacher for six years now and going on my eighth year total. Such a small class at school is a huge blessing! That is how it is where I teach and I love it! I am able to give each child special attention. We are like a family all nine of us.

Praying for a unbelievably blessed day tomorrow!

    :) Nicole

P.S. Love my bloom blag! It is some happiness.

  20. First, let me just tell you that I LOVE your blog, your shop and you 'stories' that you share.

Now, on to school, I recently went back to work as a 3rd grade teacher after being at home with my baby for 7 months. (I don't have to tell you how awesome it was to be with her, or how devastating it was to go back to work, something I don't think I will EVER get used to.)

Anyway, the only thing that gets me through, is knowing that their parents have trusted me with their most precious gift, their child. Now each day, I go into my classroom with the Lord's blessing. I have been charged with educating these children as if they were my own. I am sure your little ones' teachers feel this way too. They know that your kids are precious and valuable, they know they have a special gift from you in their class each day.

Hope this helps calm your back to school nerves! :)

  21. I so feel for you!
I get all sentimental about my kids growing up and all the changes too.
I am sure with time you will enjoy those two days and will look forward to the other three days when the kids are home with you.
    The bag is gorgeous!!

  22. We homeschool and use a tutorial as well. It's every Monday all day then they have a syllabus to complete here at home with me all week. It really is the best of both worlds I agree. :-)

  28. Hi Lindsey,
I really love this post...my situation is a little different, but I can still relate! I have three little lovlies of my own...and it made me a little sad to send them off to school this week.
I am also a teacher and know that the parents of the little leaders that sit in front of me each day, are also sad (well, maybe not all of them:) when they send them off for the first time in September. They are, after all, their babies!
Anyways...I wrote a little ditty about sending them off to school...if you have a minute, check it out at www.alliswellathome.blogspot.com
Thanks for all that you share:)
