covered notebooks in the shop!!! (again!)

yes, i know!
i just posted these a couple days ago.
but they sold out!

so i worked my tail off the last couple days
just for you!

don't forget - if you're heading to blissdom, these would be so fun to whip out of your bag to jot down those ever-so-important notes (or doodles, if you're me!).

these are a few of my favorites!

and if you're looking for a place to store those business cards and what-nots on your purse, grab a zippered pouch while you're at it, why don'tcha?

order quick because i'm on my way to the post office....

covered notebooks in the shop!!!

i just love how these pretty notebook covers look!
i have one that i bring to all my boutiques for my mailing list sign ups.

they fit a standard size composition notebook (one included), so they can be refilled!

on the inside flap of each is a little pocket that can hold up to 3 pens or pencils - so handy!

i was making myself a new one for taking notes during blissdom, and it dawned on me that some of you may want one, too!

so here's my dilemma: i made one of these for myself, but now i like them all! i can't decide which one i'll keep... so go make up your mind quickly before i take it myself! and decide soon, because blissdom is only just over a week away - aaaahh!

and if you're not going to blissdom, these are great for you, too! throw one in your purse to take notes as you wait to pick up your kids, to sketch ideas for crafts, or to use as a journal.

and did you see something new on my sidebar? i have 2 buttons. feel free to grab one or both for your blog and show me some love! leave me a note to let me know that you grabbed my button and i'll come visit you!

last week our family had the pleasure of being photographed by jasmine johnson.

i've always wanted to have someone photograph us in our home and jasmine was totally up for it!

i love how jasmine was able to catch the kids being silly. although, they were silly most of the time she was here!

oh, how i love this man!

a rare moment of stillness.

you can see a few more images over on her blog.

we had a hard time not being goofy - i think this was after she asked for a serious shot!

my life: bird cages and bare feet. and converse.

(locals only - sorry!)
it is a $250 value (!!!!!) and includes a proof book of 25-35 images from your session.

lllllet's get rrrready to rrrrramblllllle!

i'm kind of ready to ramble.
wanna come along for the ride?
buckle up!

-thanks so much for all the helpful advice the other day regarding finding balance and family schedules. seriously very helpful and i'm already implementing some of your ideas. keep 'em coming!
-these pics you see are shots from our playroom (if i was really fancy i'd call it my studio, but since the kids and all their toys belong there too, its really still a playroom). i'm neck deep in aprons. 25 full aprons, with ruffles and posies... oh my!

-last week i found out my business bank account was "compromised" - meaning someone was charging THOUSANDS of dollars to my account! fun times closing my account, changing cards and checks, paypal links, etc... oh, and this was after our personal cc was compromised just a couple weeks earlier!
-am not nearly as nervous about blissdom as i was. now i am super excited!! less than 2 weeks away, and i still don't know what i'm going to wear (not important, but really important - you know? i'm totally a girl)

-i've taken 2 full trash bags of toys out of the playroom to donate... and the kids didn't even notice! too much stuff. i'm figuring if they have less things to pull out, they'll be less to put away. good theory, right?
-yes, we californians are wimps when it comes to weather. BUT... i think its because some of us aren't prepared for the amount of rainfall we got over the last week. pouring, nearly non-stop. not such a big deal. EXCEPT... we live on a hill. on a downhill. as in we have neighbors behind us that are at the top of the hill. so when it rains water from their property comes pouring down our property and down towards our house. our (new) garage is leaking all over. we just found out that there is tons of water under our house, too. where my wedding dress is (was) stored. and it was wet. but thankfully, i was able to wash out most of it. it is kind of fun to see my dress again, just not under these circumstances.

-so after all this rain, and my kids haven't been outside to play at all for a week (because i'm not nearly as cool as joy), late last night sean decided he wanted to assemble the trampoline the great grandmothers bought for the kids for christmas. HEAVEN! oh, my how happy they have been to bounce to their heart's content today. silas said he was going to have "brown stripes like tigger" since he was bouncing. love.
-speaking of the boy, he's potty training. again. but i think its for reals this time. weeeeeelllll, i guess i can't really say that since he is wearing a diaper right now and i'm not asking him to go potty. but, when i am on top of it, he's doing really well. only a couple accidents so far, and that was only because i forgot to remind him to go. he doesn't seem to have the sensation yet of when he has to go, but he goes every time we ask him to. and because of this, he's consuming more chocolate chips than any child his age should.

-i need to color my hair. the grays are seeping through. did you hear me?! grays!!! how old am i?! it's been well over a year since i've done any color, so i think its time. i'm a little fearful though, because i don't like when it goes reddish at all. i just want brown without the gray. so i think i may do it today. but then again, if it looks bad, we have church tomorrow and i can't exactly throw on a baseball hat to cover my mistake if it's bad. but then the next day i have to take gracie to school, and then the next day we have gymnastics... its never ending - if it looks bad, someone will see it. get over it, lindsey.
-i am really enjoying some new bloggy/sewing friends. it's a good feeling to be a part of a community. encouraging, really.

ok, almost time to get the bigun' from a birthday party (a drop off party! how weird is it that i have a kid that i can drop off?!) thanks for visiting, and have a happy weekend!

work while you work

"work"
anonymous

work while you work,
play while you play;
this is the way
to be happy each day.
all that you do,
do with your might;
things done by halves
are never done right.

this is a little poem gracie had to memorize awhile back in her grammar book and it has really stuck with me.

our days are filled with these things: work and play. but i also have to add in eating, because it takes up such a large portion of our day, too. and these things are beginning to really frustrate me, mostly because in our house we don't separate them like the poem suggests. they are so mixed and jumbled that we can't make it through the day without playing while we should be doing our chores, playing while we should be eating, and eating while we should be playing or working. and i know this is mostly my fault, but i have no idea how to stop it!

here's an idea of how my morning starts:
kids playing/watching a movie until i stumble out of bed.
make breakfast because they are all so hungry.
as soon as the food is on the table they want to get down and play again.
then its time to do chores, but they're hungry since they didn't eat all their food.
and they want to play instead of doing chores, of course.
then its time to play, but they haven't finished their chores yet, but then they're hungry again....
its a vicious cycle, i tell you.

so what do you guys do?
do you have a routine?
i'm really big on my kids doing chores, even from a young age.
and i really want them to sit through an entire meal without getting up.
and i try to limit snacking between meals so that they'll actually eat at meal times, but sometimes its so much easier (and lazier) to just give them (healthy) snacks when they ask.
suggestions welcome!

and i really need to lead by example on this, too!
i work all throughout the day, when i really should be cleaning or playing.
then i play or clean when i should be working.
do any of you work from home with kids?
how do you block your time, or do you let it all mix together like me?

ps - the pics have nothing to do with this post - i just think my kids are cute!

resemblance

above is a pic of my dad.
i'm guessing he's about 1 in this picture.

and here's a picture of silas when he was 11 months old.
crazy resemblance, huh?

and here silas is at about 1 1/2, snot and all.

crazy rainy day here.
getting ready to head off to school to feed pizza to the masses (i'm the crazy lunch lady!).
ok, must go, but don't forget to enter the giveaway!

i finished! (kind of)

i finally finished silas' room!
it is filled with lots of thrifted and gifted goodies.

his piggy bank was a gift from my mom for his baby shower
and the blocks are from his aunt nicole.

up until last week his walls were still purple from when the girls were in here.
man, i loved that shade of purple.
but for a boy? not so much.
thanks for helping me paint, mom!

the quilt at the foot of his bed was from his crib (kind of an in-between size)
the chenille coverlet was on our bed when we first got married.
it reverses from white to cream.
i was just a leeeetle afraid of color 10 years ago.

i finished the headboard last week.

i stole this table from my parents' house when i left for college.
the suitcases were thrifted from various g-sales, fleas, and estate sales.
the teeny vans were from his auntie pretty and aunt turkey.
the big s was found at a local antique sale
and sean and i found the vintage skateboard long before we had kids.
the lamp is newish, from target.

i don't love how the changing table looks in here,
but we're close enough to being done with it that i don't care.
all the reproduction surf prints on the wall were a gift to sean for his office years ago.

the long skateboard on the wall was a broken one of sean's that we added hooks to and screwed to the wall.

the blue metal suitcase and orange locker cabinet (formerly red) were from local garage sales.

this vintage sesame st. lunch box was my g-sale score last weekend with my m.i.l., s.i.l., and mom.

these cubby shelves were from the office area of an old school.

those double doors open to his closet.

so, i know you'll ask me the paint color, because yes, it is yummy.
but...
i don't know what its called.
as is the case for much of our house colors, we left the cans to rust in the rain for too long and can no longer read the labels on them - sorry to disappoint!

what's left to be done?
i'm not in love with his coverlet, but i have no clue what else i'd do.
his changing table will be out of there sooner than later,
so i need to figure out what i'll do in that space - maybe a little desk?
and then i'd pretend that he'd sit still long enough to use it?!
and eventually i'd like to get some bamboo valances to cover the blackout shades.

so close to being done that that's what i'm going to call it - done!
